Abigail Joy :)

Here she is...along with my sister Deborah Joy and her husband Kyle and my parents:) Isn't she precious!!

Going Home

I love to travel! I think I used to love it even more before...

As I returned from my conference last week, I just couldn't believe how wonderful it was to be home! There is just something wonderful about sleeping in your own bed, looking at the pictures you picked out on the walls, hearing the washing machine run in the background, being able to get around without a map, and so many other things.

I was sharing this with a friend when I realized that we aren't home yet. Imagine what it will be like to finally be home-heaven. I suppose the same feelings will be true there--maybe even more true than they are for me coming back to my apartment in Bucharest. What an exciting thing to look forward to...we're going home:)

I'm an Aunt!!

Aunt Laura:)
My niece (Abigail Joy) was born March 12 just before 11 pm in MN. She weighs 9lbs 4 oz and is 20.5 inches long. I can't wait to see pictures and to meet her in person this summer! Both baby and mother are doing well. I'm an aunt:)

Rome:)

I can't get over the amazing history of Rome. We joined a tour through the city, getting more information than we could ever absorb. It was amazing to be able to revisit some sights I had seen four years ago when I traveled with Heather Fenske to Rome for Christmas. It is mind boggling!

Pompeii

I never thought I'd get to visit Pompeii. After arriving earlier than needed for a conference in Rome, Jen Lipp and I decided to take the 2 hr train to Naples and then another 30 minutes later we were outside Pompeii. Because it was Women's Day (March 8) our entrance was free (a discount of 11 Euro :) ) It was amazing to walk through this town preserved from so many years ago. We spent 3 hours walking around through the streets and houses that cover the top of a hill and barely made a dent in seeing the entire city (which had a population of 20,000). We were able to see Mt. Vesuvius on our way back to Naples. Although the weather was rainy and cold, I am thankful for this opportunity to walk into history!

Tag

I've been tagged... So, I am fulfilling my blogging duty (and actually blogging after a long time...) and answering:)

10 Years Ago:
I was finishing my senior year at Lakeville High School (it's crazy to think my 10 year reunion is this summer) and preparing to work throughout the summer before entering Northwestern College in the fall.

Things On My To Do List Today:
After being gone for almost a week, most of my to do list is focused on things for school although there are certainly some things at home that need some attention too!
1. Grocery shopping!
2. Laundry
3. Water the plants
4. Lesson plans for next week
5. Catch up on grading papers from 4 missed school days
6. Email
7. Copies for next week at school
8. Count items that have been collected for the food drive at school

Three of My Bad Habits:
1. Not putting away clean laundry--I don't mind doing the laundry and hanging it on the rack to dry, but sometimes it takes way too much effort to get it put back in the closet.
2. Trying to fix people's problems instead of just listening.
3. Chocolate

If I suddenly became a billionaire:
Wow...there are so many things I can think of to do. I think I would find ways to give most of it away. Mostly because I have been on the receiving end of other people's generous giving that have allowed me to stay in Romania these five years so I would want to do the same for others. Probably the first chunk would go to build BCA's building (only 1.5 million Euros). Perhaps there would be other ways that would come up. I think buying an apartment in Bucharest or a home in MN would probably be on the list too. It would be fun to have the finances to travel around the world and visit each continent (Antartica too).

Five Jobs I Have Had:
Hmmm...
1. Locker room attendant, swimming instructor, lifeguard, and pool director--all through Lakeville Community Education---lots of summers spent under florescent lighting:)
2. Painter--hired by my parents to paint our 'old house' that was a rental property at that time.
3. Secretary at a roofing company after a storm--calling people back who were interested in quotes, etc--not my favorite thing in the world to be on the phone and copying
4. 6th grade teacher-Lakeville, MN--my 1 year long term sub position at the school I once attended. How crazy is that!!
5. Teacher/Administrator at BCA---I've had the chance to do so many different things and have been blessed to work beside wonderful colleagues that have become dear friends! The students are great too!

Five Things People Don't Know About Me:
I think there are probably people out there who know these things about me, but I was under pressure to come up with something.
1. I learned this week I am an ISTJ (Myers-Briggs). In the past I have always come out INFJ so it was interesting to learn more about the profile and see how I fit into each spectrum.
2. Blue is my favorite color right now.
3. I like to sew--and got a sewing machine for Christmas (and am looking forward to using it!).
4. I read multiple books at once--one for on the bus, one at home, and usually at least one other one that I'm in the middle of.
5. Coloring is one of the most relaxing things to do (I'm with Mandy on this one). I love it when coloring and work overlap.

We made it:)
